Biology comes to Fab Lab Coventry for ‘Molecular Bioscience’ Friday 7th July and Saturday 8th July!
A fun hands-on event to connect kids age 7-11 and their families to ‘Molecular Biosciences”
What is Molecular Bioscience?
Molecular Bioscience is the study of biology, including the structure, function and make-up of biologically important molecules such as DNA.
What will you be doing?
The following activities will be included:
- DNA from different fruits will be extracted using household items such as salt, washing up liquid and rubbing alcohol. The white threads after extraction will be hooked and placed in an Eppendorf tube to take home.
- After extracting the DNA from different fruits we will build some DNA models and the nitrogenous bases to understand the composition.
- Printed posters will be shown how the DNA that has been extracted could make proteins via RNA.
- At the end of the session there will be quizzes and prizes related to the different sessions
Health and Safety will be followed during the whole time of the practicals students that are taking part in the experiments will be wearing protective clothing (lab coats) and safety glasses as well as gloves.

Running in hourly sessions between:
Friday, 7th July 2017, 4pm-7pm
Saturday, 8th July 2017, 11am-5pm
