In this FREE carpentry courses, we can help you learn and get hands on experiences with something completely new!

What will you being doing on this course?

You will be guided through step by step at every point. Starting with learning the tools of the trade, to learning how to use these in the most effective way, to physically using these to create your own creation ready to take home with you.

This is a FREE short taste style course, designed with you in mind. Completed at your own pace, we will support you every step of the way!

Not only do you get to learn some new skills and make something to take home with you, you can also gain a qualification, which we would encourage everyone to take advantage of. Participants will be able to use this qualification to strengthen their CV and general job prospects.

Not got a current CV? Not to worry, we can also help to support you with this too! We run regular CV workshop sessions to help get your CV stand out from the crowd.

The course was brilliant. The teaching and demonstrations before carrying out the work ourselves were very clear. At each stage what was needed to be done was modelled by the instructor so that I was very confident to carry out the work even though I have never done any woodworking before

MARIAN – 1ST CARPENTRY PILOT COURSE

How long is the course?

As everyone learns at different speeds, the course will be delivered at your own pace over a minimum of 4 days at our Furniture Factory.
Each day is normally 10am -2pm with a short break for lunch.

Not ready to complete the course at the end of the 4th day? Don’t worry, like we said, these courses are for you and if you need longer you take longer! You can stay and take all the time you need so you feel comfortable with the activities set out for you.

Who is it aimed at?

Training will usually be delivered in groups of 6 participants.

Participants must be 16 years or over.

In reality, the FabLab training is also useful in everyday life within the home and day-to-day activities, this really is the fun side of learning whilst gaining a qualification.

What Qualification will I gain from it?

You will gain a Level 1 Award in Carpentry governed by Open College Network West Midlands.

You also get to take your creation home with you to show off to friends and family!

Progression Route – Where to After this?

Following successful completion of this programme, you will have several options open to you:

  • You will gain a FabLab Coventry & Furniture Factory membership to encourage you to develop your skills further
  • Opportunities to go on to helping with community make overs
  • Continue study and take up a level 1 qualification in any of the following: Digital Fabrication, DIY or painting and decorating
  • Put skills into practice on donated furniture items, up-cycle these into something new and fab-ulous.
  • Plus so much more!
